I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with additional expertise in psychotherapy and ethics and law. My practice centres around a fundamental belief that mental health difficulties impact the whole person; body, mind and social worlds. This means I am committed to offering a supportive, holistic approach which integrates medical, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic perspectives.
I studied medicine at University College London and psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. I hold degrees in Philosophy and a PhD in ethics and law from King’s College London which led to multiple publications. During this PhD I worked with people who have been diagnosed with bipolar to pioneer Advance Choice Documents for crisis care. I gained additional training in Medical Psychotherapy at the Maudsley Hospital and Lambeth Secondary Care Psychological Therapies team.
I am experienced in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of conditions including eating disorders, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, stress, burnout and relationship difficulties.
In the NHS I work as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Maudsley Hospital Eating Disorder Service. I see people with difficulties including binge eating, bulimia and anorexia. I offer assessments and psychological therapies such as CBT for Eating Disorders and specialist supportive clinical management. I am also part of the Complex Life and Death Decisions research group at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and enjoy my roles supervising and teaching future psychiatrists.
