Psychological trauma and PTSD assessment

What is a Psychological Trauma and PTSD Assessment?

A psychological trauma and PTSD assessment is a specialist evaluation to understand how past traumatic experiences may be affecting your current mental health. It explores symptoms like flashbacks, avoidance, hypervigilance, emotional numbing, or shame — and helps clarify whether PTSD or complex trauma may be present.

Who is a Psychological Trauma and PTSD Assessment for?

This assessment is for anyone who has experienced trauma — whether recent or long ago — and wants to explore its emotional and psychological impact. You may benefit if you:

  • Have distressing memories, flashbacks, or nightmares

  • Feel on edge, easily startled, or emotionally numb

  • Avoid people, places, or situations that feel triggering

  • Experience guilt, shame, or self-blame related to past events

  • Have difficulty trusting others or feeling safe

  • Struggle with memory gaps, dissociation, or identity confusion

  • Were misdiagnosed or overlooked in the past

  • Have complex trauma, including childhood abuse or neglect

  • Are seeking a formal diagnosis of PTSD or CPTSD

  • Need a report to support therapy, legal, or occupational pathways

This assessment is suitable for adults, teens, and neurodivergent individuals, and is always paced with sensitivity and care.

What does a Trauma and PTSD Assessment involve?

  • 90–120 minute psychological or psychiatric interview

  • Trauma-informed exploration of symptoms, triggers, and life impact

  • Screening for PTSD, CPTSD, dissociation, and related conditions

  • Use of validated tools (e.g. CAPS-5, ITQ, PCL-5, DES-II)

  • Careful history-taking — no pressure to share specific details unless safe

  • Discussion of emotional, relational, and sensory responses to trauma

  • Review of co-occurring conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD)

  • Diagnostic formulation (if appropriate) using ICD-11 or DSM-5

  • Written summary or report (if requested) for treatment, access, or medico-legal use

  • Supportive feedback and next-step recommendations

  • Trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and identity-sensitive care

  • Online or in-person assessment options

  • Option for post-assessment therapy, psychiatry, or referrals
